There’s nothing more beautiful and fresh than babies and springtime! Little Elle is 13 months old and full of giggles and smiles and those cheeks!!! I’m excited to see her, her mommy and daddy again this fall when her Aunt Megan gets married!
It looks like spring in Kansas City… It almost feels like spring in Kansas City. I can almost smell the spring blooms as I’m going through these images from Angie and Scott’s engagement session. It was darker than we had anticipated that evening, which gave us a great opportunity for some night-time photos at our gorgeous downtown landmarks. I’m in love with the Liberty Memorial Silhouette- an image made possible by Angie and Scott’s willingness to hop a wall and climb a pretty steep hill – I think it was totally worth the effort!
They did it! I’m still coming down from the high of this amazing day. As I mentioned in a previous post, after meeting Megan, we became fast friends. I love being around her because she’s so upbeat and happy all the time. Megan makes you feel so good to be around. Being with her on one of her happiest days was amazing.
We knew earlier in the week that the weather wasn’t going to cooperate with our plans for lots of outdoor photos and an outdoor ceremony but Megan and Scott never let that get them down. They toughed out some short periods of time outside in the cold and embraced the indoor opportunities the gorgeous Elms Hotel had to offer. Even though it was 40 degrees outside, spring was all around us with the amazing floral arrangements provided by Beco Flowers. Nicole from Simple Elegance was their coordinator. I’ve worked with Simple Elegance for more than 10 years but this was my first opportunity to work with Nichole and she was amazing. So sweet and kind and she kept the day running perfectly. It almost broke my heart to see the beautiful cake (by Vickie DuPaul) and it smelled as delicious as it was beautiful.
I’ve been going through family photos a lot lately. Our kids love to look through our family photos and videos and frequently ask to watch the videos and view the photos from when they were little but the more I go through them, the more I regret one big thing; I should have been in more photos. I know there’s the every present problem that I’m usually the one behind the camera but I also sadly have the problem that so many moms have – I don’t feel confident enough to get in FRONT of the lens. When I was in the photos, I usually wasn’t a big fan of how I looked. Sometimes I was just being too critical of myself and sometimes it just wasn’t my most “photo ready” moment! You see, I always hope that I look like this in photos with my kiddos:
(Photo by my amazing friend and sometimes second shooter, Alexis Close.)
Sadly, I usually find myself looking more like this:
OK, obviously the first photo is a professional shot, nicely lit, beautifully composed image and the second is a selfie that seems to be shooting straight up my nose. My arm is obviously not long enough to get us all in the frame in a nice way 🙂 I think we all have too many of these “family photos” and not enough of the first kind.
This time of year is when my husband starts asking me what I want for Mother’s Day and every year I answer with the same thing : “really don’t worry about it” or “I don’t NEED anything” or “I don’t know………” Poor David gets hit twice in this area because my birthday always falls within days of Mother’s Day and this poor guy gets no help from me! As parents it’s our instinct to put everyone else first but I figured out this year what I would really like to have: portraits with each of my babies. I want something that both they and I can keep forever and be proud to hang on my wall. I want them to look at those photos with me years down the road and remember how much I love them and love being their mom. After chatting with a few of my friends I found out how popular that idea was so I thought Mother’s Day would be the perfect time to offer “Mommy and Me” Mini sessions! This May 12 and May 19 I’ll be offering 30 min. sessions to capture you and your babies . Each session will yield photos of you with all of your children together as well as you with each of your children individually. If you’re a Daddy who wants to get in on the action, no worries we love all parents around here – it’ll be a “Daddy and Me” session for you! If you’re a Daddy looking for the perfect gift for the Mommy in your life ( your children’s mother or even your own mother) let me know! I’m happy to make you a gift certificate for you to gift this session to her.
It’s wedding week for this gorgeous couple!!! I’m so excited for this weekend – when Megan and I first met a year ago (how did it go by that fast!!??) we hit it off immediately and every time we’re together we’re chatting so much that time slips away. I should have known we’d get along great – she was referred by one of my favorite former brides; Alyssa. Check back early next week for their preview pics!!
It’s almost time! Anyone who watches our website or social media will instantly recognize Hannah. I’ve been honored to photograph many of Hannah’s big moments in her adult life – from her senior photos many years ago to engagement and wedding photos and now Hannah and Tyler are just about to welcome a new tiny one.
Keep an eye on the blog – tonight’s session made me nostalgic for all of the sessions Hannah and I have worked on together so I’ll probably be pulling a few images from each of her sessions to post very soon!
It’s almost been a year since this amazing day so I wanted to feature Charlie and Hadley here on the blog today. In the months since the wedding, I have had the chance to work again with Hadley and each time I see her (and of course Charlie too) I just love her more. Hadley is as sweet as can be and their love for one another is so obvious.
Their ceremony and reception were both hosted at the Kemper Museum and they made their ceremony especially personal by asking a close friend and former co-worker to officiate for them.
I hope you’re celebrating this weekend, I’ll be thinking of you!
Haley and Sarina met in while they were on the same rugby team at KU so shooting around KU’s campus was the perfect choice for their engagement session! I’d had the chance to get to know them the previous weekend at Haley’s sister’s wedding and then 3 days later we really got the chance to chat and focus on them. I so enjoyed their sense of humor and the laughs we shared that evening.
